Hong Kong Street Design Forum
Bringing planners, designers and academics together to imagine people-oriented streets.
In 2022 we convened the Hong Kong Street Design Forum — a series of expert panels bringing together transport planners, urban designers and academics to ask a fundamental question: what are the alternatives to Hong Kong's car-oriented approach to streets?
Across its sessions, the forum examined why Hong Kong has fallen behind leading cities in creating healthy, people-first streets, what stands in the way, and how new ways of designing and governing our streets could deliver better outcomes. The discussions were shared publicly and developed into recommendations for the wider professional community.
Beyond the Car
The opening panel, "Alternatives to the car-oriented approach?", asked how Hong Kong's streets could serve people rather than through-traffic.
What's Holding Us Back
Experts examined the institutional and design barriers keeping Hong Kong behind cities that have already transformed their streets.
A Shared Agenda
The forum built recommendations to be developed and shared with planners, designers and decision-makers across the profession.
